Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. 5000 km rowing from La Gomera in Spain to Antigua in the Caribbean, starting in December 2022 with an expected completion after 40-50 days.
The first Danish female team to take on the challenge has been formed. The team consists of Anne-Marie, Marie, and Camilla – or Rowmodels, as they so fittingly call themselves.
MIIEGO is proud to be a sponsor of Rowmodels and an official audio partner on their impressive journey.
The pursuit of the extraordinary
Covering 5000 km in a rowboat is not an everyday occurrence. The three women behind Rowmodels know this well. Nevertheless, it is precisely the combination of the ordinary and the extraordinary that forms the basis for their journey with Rowmodels.
They explain: "We want to highlight that completely normal women with children, jobs, and daily lives can set out to do something extraordinary."
Equipment must work
The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is an "unsupported race." This means that once the boat sets off, they are on their own. For this reason, the equipment on the boat is also crucial. Rowmodels says: "This will be the ultimate test of MIIEGO's products. Many of the previous participants have unfortunately experienced their speakers and headphones breaking down during the trip – with a long time left at sea."
The unfortunate experiences of previous participants are also part of the reason why Rowmodels initially reached out to MIIEGO. They explain: "We chose to seek a collaboration with MIIEGO because MIIEGO focuses on an active lifestyle, where fit and water resistance are important parameters. And MIIEGO is a Danish brand with a proud audio tradition, and as the first Danish female boat to embark on this challenge, it's natural to champion the Danish flag."
Clear role models
Henrik Østergaard, Head of Partnerships at MIIEGO, can also easily see the match with the strong Rowmodels. He elaborates: "The three women, Anne-Marie, Marie, and Camilla, who together form Rowmodels, are the coolest women in Denmark! We are deeply fascinated and impressed by how they take on this great challenge. The cohesion, dedication, and focused mindset that characterize the women's work as "Rowmodels" is something we at MIIEGO can identify with and, not least, learn from."
He continues: "As the name suggests, the women are role models, and what they embark on can inspire us all. At MIIEGO, we completely share the mindset and philosophy of setting a goal and collectively doing what it takes to achieve it."
Music makes a difference on the trip
Although speakers and headphones may not at first glance seem like essential equipment on a trip like the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, Rowmodels emphasizes the importance of sound.
First and foremost, because sound in the form of music, podcasts, and audiobooks can uplift, inspire, unite, and motivate, which they will need at sea.
Additionally, because sound is – quite literally – the easiest way to bring small memories of home on the trip. "Weight is a big factor on the trip, and we optimize the boat so we bring a minimum. But being able to tell family and friends that they can send thoughts and love to us through playlists will be important when we sit alone in the middle of the night in the moonlight and miss them," says Rowmodels.
Musical support
At MIIEGO, we hope that Rowmodels can find musical support to overcome the great challenges as well as experiences they encounter during their journey. With our sponsorship, we hope to contribute to helping these strong Danish women on their way to fulfilling their ambitions, dreams, and goals – now with specialized Danish sound on board the boat.
Finally, Henrik Østergaard adds: "And of course, we look forward to having Anne-Marie, Marie, and Camilla back on land in early 2023 with MIIEGO's products, which, despite some harsh and wet days, will still be playing the women's preferred sound in their ears!"
What will Rowmodels bring on the trip?
Rowmodels will row across the Atlantic with MIIEGO's MiiBUDS ACTION II headphones and the waterproof AXTIVE M3 speaker. Both products are built to withstand harsh weather conditions and have long battery life, which means Rowmodels won't have to charge their equipment too often on the long journey.
